Note: Traditional tire size designations are confusing, and can lead to considerable trouble. For instance, a 26 x 1.75" tire will not fit a 26 x 1 3/4" rim!

This page mainly uses the modern I.S.O. sizing system, though it also lists the traditional national based systems.

For a thorough explanation of tire sizing systems,

see my Tire Sizing Article.

It's best if you can read the tire size from your old tire, but if you don't have an old tire, or the marking is illegible, you can

Measure the Rim...here's how!

For an overview of tire information to help you choose, and to get the best results from your tires:

28 inch (635 mm) Tires

This is the size used on Old British (Dutch, Chinese, Indian...) roadsters.

Sometimes confused with northern European 622 mm tires, which sometimes include a "28 inch" designation. This size is commonly found on "roadster" bicycles with "rod brakes" under such brand names as: Dunelt, Raleigh, Rudge, Humber, Phillips.

In the French sizing system, this size is called "700 B."

In northern Europe this size is also sometimes called "28 inch", but should not be confused with the 28 x 1 1/2 635 mm size.

There are no medium-width tires available in this diameter, just very narrow raod tires and wide cruiser tires.

Frequently confused with the 559 mm size, since both are commonly referred to as "26 inch."

These fit Schwinn 26 x 1 3/4 S-7 and Canadian 26 x 1 1/2 F.12 rims
