Notes for Matts CARLSON
3 children died in october 1838: Carl Johan, 16; Margareta-Stina, 9; Anders Gustav, 6 several others died young. Matts Carlsson owned Mattas farm after his father, and he also owned the neighboring farm "Miklas." He liked a high life and used also too much alcohol, so he was compelled ot sell both farms an dcould keep only a croft under Mattas farm. This happened in 1843. The half of Mattas farm was again sold, 1848, to a new family. Karl Anders took over the croft after his father, and bought the old home back again Dec. 15, 1879, so that the same familyh came again to the old homestead, but Mattas farm was at that time only half as big as it earlier had been. Johan Erik Mattson (Ida Brown's father) left home as a sailor and came to America the first time the end of 1860 or beginning of 1870. He came back ot Aland and married Emilia Erika Johanddotter Palen, born Dec. 11, 1850--died April 13, 1888. Her parents were: stepfather Erik Magnus Eklund, born Oct. 11, 1821 (from Sodersunda village, nearest village to Vestunsunda), mother Sofia Palen, born March 12 1830 (from Sornerv in Finland.)13
