26" Bicycle Tires from Harris Cyclery
(ISO/E.T.R.T.O. 559 mm)

"26 inch" is not actually a single size, it's part of the designation of at least 5 different, non-interchangeable sizes!

559 mm (most mountain bikes, decimal sizes)

If your tire size is expressed as "26 x 1.25" or "26 x 1.50" or "26 x 1.75" or "26 x 1.95" or "26 x 2.1" or "26 x 2.125" or "26 x " any other decimal number, 559 mm is the size you need.

This is the size used on almost all mountain bikes.

571 mm (650C), Schwinn 26 x 1 3/4"

Very narrow tires in this size are used on some time-trial bicycles and high performance road bikes for smaller riders.

(Heavy, wide tires in this ISO size are used on older Schwinn cruisers and some Canadian bikes (26 x 1 1/2 F.12.)

There are no medium-width tires available in this diameter, just very narrow raod tires and wide cruiser tires.

Frequently confused with the 559 mm size, since both are commonly referred to as "26 inch."

Click here for wide 571 mm Schwinn size tires.

584 mm (650B), 26 x 1 1/2"

This is the size used on most older French touring, tandem and utility bikes.

This size was also used on a few models from Raleigh (Portage) and Schwinn (Mirada). (This is not the same as the Canadian 26 x 1 1/2 size-that's 571 mm.)

Some folks like to use this size on bikes originally intended for larger wheels. Click here for details.

590 mm (650A), 26 x 1 3/8"

This is the size used on most 3-speed bikes.
Also used on department-store 10 speeds and some specialty bicycles made for smaller riders.

Often confused with the 597 mm and 559 mm sizes

This size is commonly found on Dunelt, Raleigh, Rudge, Humber, Robin Hood, Phillips, Hercules, Triumph, Royce Union, Huffy and other bicycles, and is the most common size for three speed bikes. This size does not fit Schwinn bicyles!

597 mm 26 x 1 1/4 (British); 26 x 1 3/8" (Schwinn)

Some Older British Club bikes use this size, designated 26 x 1 1/4 EA.1

Older Schwinn 3-speeds use this size, designated 26 x 1 3/8 S-6.

Often confused with the 590 mm size.
