Although mainly known for the annual Christmas Revels, Revels, Inc. produces a wide array of community and seasonal celebrations. There have been Harvest Revels, Sea Revels and Spring Revels at various sites in and around Boston and Cambridge. These performances have taken many forms and have featured such talented performers as master storyteller Jay O'Callahan, legendary Georgia Sea Island singer Bessie Jones, chanteyman Louis Killen and local jazz great Stan Strickland. For the past six summers, Revels has produced a series of outdoor performances called Midsummer Revels in the rural community of Lincoln, Massachusetts. | Performance sites have included the grounds of the historic Codman Estate and the outdoor amphitheatre of the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park. Midsummer Revels themes have included a Celebration of Country Life, a Medieval Faire, a Sea Revels, an American program set in the Civil War era, and last year's excursion to Ireland and its Travelling People.
The 1997 Midsummer Revels will be a celebration of French-Canadian culture. |
