Note: Traditional tire size designations are confusing, and can lead to considerable trouble. For instance, a 26 x 1.75" tire will not fit a 26 x 1 3/4" rim!This page mainly uses the modern I.S.O. sizing system, though it also lists the traditional national based systems.

This is the size used on Old British (Dutch, Chinese, Indian...) roadsters.Sometimes confused with northern European 622 mm tires, which sometimes include a "28 inch" designation. This size is commonly found on "roadster" bicycles with "rod brakes" under such brand names as: Dunelt, Raleigh, Rudge, Humber, Phillips.
In the French sizing system, this size is called "700 B."

This is the size used on most older 10- and 12-speed road bikes

This size is used on almost all modern road bikes, also almost all "hybrid" and "cross" bikes. The wider versions of this size are sometimes called "29 inch."In northern Europe this size is also sometimes called "28 inch", but should not be confused with the 28 x 1 1/2 635 mm size.

Very narrow tires in this size are used on some time-trial bicycles and high performance road bikes for smaller riders.
Heavy, wide tires in this size are used on older Schwinn cruisers and some Canadian bikes (26 x 1 1/2 F.12.
There are no medium-width tires available in this diameter, just very narrow raod tires and wide cruiser tires.
Frequently confused with the 559 mm size, since both are commonly referred to as "26 inch."

These fit Schwinn 26 x 1 3/4 S-7 and Canadian 26 x 1 1/2 F.12 rims
Although the 571 mm I.S.O. size is the same, these tires won't generally work on bikes built for the narrower 650C tires.
Frequently confused with the 559 mm size, since both are commonly referred to as "26 inch."
These are distinguished by the fractional designation 1 3/4, rather than the decimal 1.75 which would be a 559 mm
