The new Raleigh Rush Hour is a great choice for the urban fixed-gear fan. Some of its features,are: Comes with two brakes, but if you prefer not to use the rear brake the clamp on top tube cable guides are removeable for a clean look. All decals are applied on top of the clear coat, so if you prefer, the decals may be easily removed for the "stealth" look without damaging the finish. Unusually generous tire clearance for a bike of its type. Flip-flop rear hub with 15 tooth fixed gear and 16 tooth freewheel installed. Surly Steamroller fixed-gear road frameset

TIG welded, double-butted CrMo frame with a gorgeous fork. The fork has a really nice investment-cast crown and socket-type investment-cast fork ends.

Unlike frames made for velodrome use, the Surly Steamroller has clearance for reasonable width tires, even a set of water bottle mounts.

Fork Ends (not Drop Outs ):

Surly track-style Fork Ends $27.95/pair These are traditional rear-opening fork ends. Despite their popularity, they're not the best choice, especially for road use. The rear-opening makes wheel changes harder. If installed level, as shown, on a bike with a rear brake, you'll need to re-adjust the brake shoes every time you change sprocket sizes.
Salsa Horizontal Drop Outs $58.95/pair Stainless steel with beautiful polished finish. Although these were made for derailer applications, there's nothing available that works as well for a fixed-gear road bike. You can cut off the derailer tab if that bothers you.

Proper track nuts have integral washers. They permit easier adjustment of chain tension, and hold the wheel in place better.

Right-threaded Bottom-bracket Lockring 1.37" x 24 tpi	FSA	CR5001 $4.95	Not a track lockring, this is a right-threaded 1.37" x 24 tpi lockring intended for old style bottom brackets. If you are using a single-threaded freewheel-type hub, this is better than nothing, though not so secure as a real track hub with a left-threaded lockring.

Single Stack Bolts $6.95 set of 5

It looks really goofy to ride a fixed gear with a useless extra chainwheel on your crank. These track-style stack bolts are the right length to hold a single chainwheel to your crank. They fit all modern cranks.

3 mm Chainwheel Spacers $2.95 set of 5 For budget road-to-fixed conversions, a quick and dirty way to make the chainline work is by spacing the chainwheel inward from the crank spider. This is especially useful if you're using a hub made for a multi-speed freewheel, because it reduces the amount of re-dishing required.

Chains and Links

Fixed gear and singlespeed bikes can use either ¹/₈" or ³/₃₂" chain.

Narrow (³/₃₂") Chains

This size is used on bikes with derailers, but is also excellent for fixed-gear bikes. This chain is lighter than the ¹/₈" size. We recommend this for most road fixed-gear/singlespeed applications.

³/₃₂" chains are listed on our Chain Page. We particularly recommend the SRAM (Sachs/Sedis) PC58.

NEW! 3/32" Half Links $3.95

If you are having trouble fitting the desired gears onto a bike with vertical dropouts, this link will let you add or subtract 1/2 a link (1/2 inch) from your chain, allowing you to move the axle 1/4" forward or backward. We never used to be able to get half-links for the narrow chain, this is a new item!

Wide (¹/₈") Chains

This size is traditionally used on track bikes and other bikes that don't have derailers. ¹/₈" chains are listed on our Wide Chain Page.

1/8" Half Links $4.95

If you are having trouble fitting the desired gears onto a bike with vertical dropouts, this link will let you add or subtract 1/2 a link (1/2 inch) from your chain, allowing you to move the axle 1/4" forward or backward. Different brands of chain have different diameter rivets; these links do not fit all 1/8" chains, but they do fit the models we sell.

Extra-Wide 1" x (³/₁₆") "skip-link" Chains

This size was formerly popular on track bikes, and classic coaster-brake bikes. Unfortunately, we don't currenty have a source for these, neither roller nor block type.
