More information on the SRAM S7 internal-gear hub — a reader has sent us links to step-by-step rebuilding information and model comparisons, with photos. The text is in Russian but the photos tell the story and then there’s Google Translate. We’ve also checked an updated all the links on the page.
Our Sturmey-Archer 4, 5 and 7-speed hub page has been updated with links to newly-available information on recent 5-speed hubs.
The Sheldon Brown gear calculator is updated and improved: more tire sizes are covered including fatbikes, 29ers, 29+ and monster bikes, and we now have a version in German, as well as French.
New crank lengths have been added to the Gear Calculator and Internal Gear Calculator, so they can calculate gain ratios for children’s bicycles with cranks down to 100 mm (less than 4 inches).
Several tire sizes have been added to the Gear Calculator:
Fatbike sizes: 26 inch tires, 26 x 3.8, 4.0, 4.25, 4.7
Wide 29ers: 29 x 2.7 and 3.0
32 inch and 36 inch (common on unicycles).
Major revision to the page about Shimano 7-speed hubs:
— Added information on new hub models and fixed the many links which Shimano broke when it went to its new organization of technical Web pages
— Linked to a number of documents Shimano abandoned. They’re available in the Internet Archive.
— Located other orphaned information where I could find it elsewhere on the Internet.
All in all, I’ve brought the information on each model of hub together in one place, to the degree possible with what I could find. Please let me know about errors and omissions.
Updates to our main page on Sachs and SRAM hubs , and our page on the G8 and G9 hubs. We have located additional technical information from SRAM, and wehave fixed a number of Web links that went bad.
Major addition to our article with general technical information about Sturmey-Archer internal-gear hubs — the different types of anti-rotation washers. It matters which ones you use!
