We continue with our postings from the lost pages of the Sutherland’s Handbook for Bicycle Mechanics, 6th Edition — this time, the rebuilding instructions, parts list and troubleshooting chart for the Sachs Super 7/SRAM Spectro 7 hub.
I have no added another hub from the Sutherland’s lost pages to to our Internet republication of Sutherland’s Handbook of Coaster Brakes and Internal-Gear Hubs — : the Shimano coaster-brake 7-speed. Here’s a page from the almost-finished draft – John Allen.
Sutherland’s planned to cover new internal-gear hubs in the 6th Edition (1996) of its Handbook, but then left them out. In straightening up my office recently, I found the nearly finished draft pages. We have permission, and we’ll be adding them to our Internet republication of Sutherland’s Handbook of Coaster Brakes and Internal-Gear Hubs — including trouble charts and comparative parts lists not to be found elsewhere. First hub is now online: the Shimano 4-speed – John Allen.
We have a major revision to our article on truing wheels, referring to some new tools and additional techniques. There are several new photos. Enjoy.
Every once in a while we go back and review our pages to deal with product changes and link rot. We just did that with all our pages about Sachs and SRAM internal-gear hubs. You will find product manuals here which are hard to find anywhere else. You can start with our main page about these hubs.
There’s a new section in our freewheels page showing how freewheels work and what is inside.
Major revision to our article about Sturmey-Archer indicator spindles — which ones fit which hubs. Also a new article on how to measure for an indicator spindle in case you can’t identify the hub. Many thanks to Bruce Dance for suggestions, corrections and new material!
We have updated all of our pages about Sachs and SRAM internal-gear hubs, fixing broken links and, regretfully, indicating that SRAM is now no longer making internal-gear hubs. But many of you are using these hubs, and we are maintaining information on them. Main page with links to others.
Pages about tandems and tandeming Sheldon Brown and family on home-built tandems[/caption] have been updated. We have more about disc brakes, brake levers, Gates synchronizing belts, and details about upgrading a cheap beach-resort tandem to ride with a child.
